Established in 1968, See-A-Cake pioneered an improved method for securing cakes for resale. It began in founder Bob Dahl’s garage with homemade equipment, as he sold his cake domes driving door-to-door to local bakeries. The concept quickly caught on and the fledgling company soon moved into its first factory in Lonnsdale, Minnesota. With continued success, it later moved to larger quarters in Faribault, MN.
In 2004, Bob Dahl retired to Florida and placed stewardship of the company into the hands of Bill Alpaugh. Bill moved the company once again to Waterville, Minnesota. For the next 8 years, the company continued to provide the same great products as Bob had modestly produced from his home years ago.
In early 2013, Mercury Plastics Inc., based in Chicago, Illinois acquired See-A-Cake and moved it to its’ current day location in Chicago. Operating out of a 150,000 square foot facility, Mercury is committed to providing quality cake dome solutions to See-A-Cake’s former customers and indeed anyone who values quality and secure packaging for the transport or display of special occasion cakes and baked goods.
Now under the Mercury Plastics umbrella, See-A-Cake customers can expect many advantages that lead to top quality and fast turnaround times. As a vertically integrated company, we offer in-house extrusion. Molds and tooling are also made in house on CNC machines. With dozens of leading edge thermoforming machines and routers, we have more than ample capacity. From pellet to pallet, it’s all under one roof.
